New JPI Climate Chair sets out new strategic mechanism and new programmes

Frank McGovern of the Irish Environmental Protection Agency started his tenure as new chair of the JPI Climate Governing Board during the Governing Board meeting in November 2017 by committing to the vision of the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA): making a meaningful contribution to achieving a carbon neutral climate resilient society and economy under the Paris Agreement and the UN Agenda 2030 for sustainability. A new strategic mechanism with regular "Scoping Fora" will support future programming. The first JPI Climate Scoping Forum will take place on 26 and 27 March 2018.

In 2018 two new activities will start to strengthen the JPI Climate collaboration and advance in providing excellent climate knowledge to inform decision making. With SINCERE, a coordination and support action on internationalisation of JPI Climate, JPI Climate will intensify its international collaboration activities in Africa, Latin America and beyond, while contributing to more cohesion Europe-wide, fostering especially the exchange with Eastern European countries not yet involved in the JPI Climate partnership. With AXIS, an ERA-NET Cofund focusing on cross-sectoral impact assessments of climate change, an important step will be taken to fill research gaps on interrelated impacts needed for a holistic assessment of climate change impacts that can inform decision making.
